Code: 11368

£7,750.00

James I Hammered Gold Unite of Twenty Shillings.
Second coinage (1604-19).
Mint mark Trefoil on both sides, (1613).
Obverse: Fourth crowned and armoured half-length bust facing right, holding orb and sceptre, with beaded circles and Latin legend surrounding: IACOBVS; D;G; MAG; BRI; FRA; ET; HI; REX.
Reverse: Crowned quartered shield of arms, I to left, R to right, with Latin legend surrounding: FACIAM. EOS. IN. GENTEM. VNAM.
10.00 Grams, 36 mm in diameter.
Schneider 27; N.2084; S.2619.
Extremely well struck for the notoriously softly-struck issue, on a large full size flan, with original lustrous surfaces, showing great detail, especially upon the hair and face, lightly toned.
Has been graded and slabbed by NGC as Almost Uncirculated, (AU) 55, (somewhat unfairly for such a striking piece).
NGC Certification number: 8774100-003.
