Victoria, 1887 Gold Specimen Set, Struck for Queen Victoria’s Golden Jubilee.
Comprising of: Gold Five Pounds, Gold Two Pounds, Gold Sovereign, Gold Half-Sovereign, Silver Crown, Double-Florin, Half-crown, Florin, Shilling, Sixpence and Three pence. (11)
All the obverses with the Jubilee crowned and veiled bust facing left, J.E.B. initials on truncation for the designer Joseph Edgar Boehm, J.E.B. below truncation on Sixpence, blank truncation on Three pence, with Latin legend and toothed border surrounding.
Reverse of the Gold Five Pounds, Gold Two Pounds, Gold Sovereign and Silver crown with St George and dragon right, date in exergue, B.P. to upper right, for Benedetto Pistrucci, Gold Half-Sovereign reverse: Struck en medaille, crowned quartered high shield of arms, date below, with Latin legend and toothed border surrounding.
Double-Florin and Florin with crowned cruciform shields, sceptres in angles, garter star at centre, Roman I in date of the Double-Florin and the Florin, Half-crown with crowned quartered shield of arms, within Order of the Garter, date 1887 at bottom, with Latin legend surrounding. Shilling and Sixpence with crowned quartered shield of arms, within Garter motto, date 1887 below; Three pence with crowned mark of value within wreath, date either side of the denomination 3.
A rare matching, early Victorian Specimen set, the silver all with a matching cabinet tone, all about extremely fine or better, some surface/handling marks, the gold much as struck, with a light golden lustrous tone.
Complete with an original red leatherette fitted box, with gold banding and plush blue velvet insert for the eleven coins.
