Obverse: Laureate head facing left, with Latin legend and toothed border surrounding: IACOBVS. II. DEI. GRATIA.
Reverse: Crowned cruciform shields, emblematic sceptres in angles, eight strings to harp, date either side of top crown (1688/7), with Latin legend and toothed border surrounding: .MAG. BR. FRA. ET. HIB REX. (No stop after HIB).
Edge obliquely milled.

16.74 grams, 31 mm in diameter.
A rare example of a very short issue, especially so with the over date, lustrous, with a most attractive overlying deep golden tone, seldom encountered this well perserved. 
Has been graded and slabbed as AU 55 by NGC, with only one other graded higher!
