Oliver Cromwell Silver Milled Crown 1658/7, (8 in date struck over 7)
Obverse: Laureate and draped bust facing left, raised die flaw at the early stage, with abbreviated Latin legend and toothed border surrounding: OLIVAR. D.G.R.P. ANG. SCO. HIB &c PRO
Reverse: Crowned quartered shield of arms of the Protectorate, date above, with latin legend and toothed border surrounding: PAX QVÆRITVR BELLO
Edge inscribed in raised letters: *.HAS. NISI. PERITVRVS. MIHI. ADIMAT. NEMO.
S.3226; N.2745; Bull 240.
Attractively toned with silky grey surfaces, showing a superb portrait of “the Great Emancipator” without the larger flaw of the later strikes, scarce in this state of preservation.
Has been graded and slabbed by NGC as MS 61.
