George V, 1911 Proof Set, of eight silver proof coins, struck for the coronation year.
Consisting of: silver Halfcrown, Florin, Shilling, Sixpence and Maundy Set.
All housed within a most unusual, period blue leatherette octagonal plush box for the eight-coin set, with gold block lettering: BANK OF ENGLAND / 19TH JUNE, 1911.
With the bank logo, between lines, an extremely rare period box.
S.PS13
As struck with a superb choice tone, a truly superior original set.
*It is thought that this set would have been specially ordered to be gifted to VIP’S/ dignitaries from the Bank of England.
**With a mintage of only 2,243 sets which is over 500 less than the full "long" gold five pounds – penny proof set.
These original short silver sets housed in the original plush box are becoming rare within the numismatic market, especially the original matching sets such as this.
